Dr. Okey James Ezugwu is a distinguished and accomplished professional with a career spanning 33 years in immigration and security duties and rose to the enviable rank of Assistant Comptroller General in the Nigeria Immigration Service. Born in May 1962, Dr. Ezugwu’s journey has been marked by an unwavering commitment to public service and a passion for matters related to migration law, migration management, border control, and international relations. A former journalist with the Nigerian Newspaper of Records, The Guardian, he is an activist and a great advocate for the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. He is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Asylum and Refugee Rights Advocates Foundation. He joined the Law firm of Chief Mike Ozokhome’s Chambers(MOC) in October 2023 as a Senior Counsel.
Education:
Dr. Ezugwu’s educational journey began at St Dominic Primary School, Ovoko-Ulo through Central School, Ovoko completing his primary education in 1975. Thereafter he proceeded to Christ High School Abor, Udi Local Government Area and Obollo High School, Obollo Eke, Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, where he completed his secondary education in 1975. He further pursued his academic interests at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State), earning a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in History in 1986. He obtained his Bachelor of laws degree (LL.B) from University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in 2002 and was called to the Nigerian Bar by the Body of Benchers as Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2004. Dr. Ezugwu later obtained a Master’s degree (M.sc) in Political Science (International Relations) from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2016, Master of Laws (LL.M) from University of Calabar in 2023 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Political Science (International Relations) from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2023.

Mr. Okoro Nwaeze Ogbonnaya was born on April 14, 1962, in Uburu, a town nestled in the heart of Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Growing up in Uburu, Okoro displayed an early passion for education and community service. He attended Central School, Amoffia Ukawu, where he completed his First School Leaving Certificate in 1975. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Afikpo, graduating with a West African School Certificate in 1980.
Driven by his desire to pursue higher education and contribute meaningfully to society, Okoro enrolled at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he earned a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Guidance and Counselling in 1986. Elder Lawrence Asuquo is a distinguished Nigerian, born on the 11th of August, 1959, in Duke Town, Calabar, Cross River State. He hails from Calabar South Local Government Area and is a proud Nigerian, fluent in English, Efik, Ibo, and Hausa.
Elder Lawrence Asuquo’s educational journey began at Duke Town Primary School, Calabar, where he laid the foundation for his academic pursuits. He continued his secondary education at the West African People Institute, Calabar, and Community Secondary Grammar School, Ugep, from 1972 to 1976. He furthered his studies at the College of Education, Uyo, obtaining a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1983. His quest for knowledge led him to the University of Calabar, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Education/History in 1992 and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) in 1999.
In 1984, Elder Lawrence Asuquo embarked on his National Youth Service, serving his country with diligence and commitment. He began his career as an Assistant Education Officer, teaching at Government Secondary School, DU, Jos, Plateau State, from 1983 to 1984. His passion for public service and commitment to national development led him to join the Nigeria Immigration Service in September 1985.
During his illustrious career at the Nigeria Immigration Service, Elder Lawrence Asuquo served with distinction, rising through the ranks to the position of Deputy Comptroller of Immigration before his retirement in August 2019. His dedication and hard work were recognized with various certifications, including a Certificate in Fraud and Documentary in 2009 and a Certificate of Participation on the Protection of Refugees in Nigeria in 2013. He also received a Letter of Commendation from the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service for his effective management of the Mfum/Ekok Border Control Post in 2015.

Musa Umaru, born on 25th September 1965 in Zuru, Kebbi State, is a distinguished former officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. He embarked on his professional journey after completing his education at Danga Gomo Primary School, Government Teachers College Zuru, College of Education Sokoto, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Joining the NIS in 1988, Musa Umaru held various key positions, demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise. His roles included Parade Instructor, Provost Marshall, Passport Production Officer, Special Assistant to the Assistant Comptroller General of CERPAC, Acting In-Charge of Planning, Research, and Statistics at SHQS Abuja, Second-In-Command at Idiroko Command, and Comptroller of Investigation at SHQS Abuja. Each position underscored his commitment to excellence, integrity, and efficient service delivery.
